I’ve just released a patch to FreeBSD 8-CURRENT to get it booting to single user mode on the Neo1973 emulator. I’ve written up some notes on using it the OpenMoko wiki. It’s best if you already know a bit about building FreeBSD as it can take some effort to build everything needed. However if you have an interest in testing it and giving me feedback I encourage you to give it a go.

In other news it appears I’m famous in Russia (Google translation)

    Hi,

are you still working on that?

I am more or less regularly visiting the openmoko wiki to see if you are updating the FreeBSD article and if I need to start thinking about getting a Neo…

Just wanted to let you know somebody out there is quite impressed by and also interested in what you have achieved :)

I’m still working on the port but I’ve expanded it to include other boards with a similar CPU. As for using the Neo Freerunner as a phone with FreeBSD that will take even longer as it will include porting the GUI parts to run on FreeBSD.

    Andrew,

    that is great to hear.

Sure it will take a lot more effort to make the phone really usable with FreeBSD.

Nevertheless, if it already boots to multiuser, it would be worth for me to spend some money and time on it (I am no kernel hacker, but I might test it and maybe try to have a look at some user space stuff, time permitting…)

    Please keep us updated!

    Best regards

    Stephan
